Steam heads are the outlets from which steam flows into the shower enclosure. Usually installed on a wall, steam heads disperse steam evenly and safely throughout the shower enclosure. You can upgrade these by adding essential oils for some relaxing aromatherapy.
Control panels allow you to adjust the temperature and control the duration of your steam shower. These can be installed both inside or outside your steam shower unit.

When it comes to steam shower maintenance it is extremely important to keep your generator well maintained. This can be achieved quite simply by continuously doing a few small things:
- Installing a Flush System: It is crucial to flush your generator after each use to ensure a continuous high-quality steam experience. MrSteam shower kits offer this system in their packages with AutoFlush, as does Thermasol with their PowerFlush system.
- Clean your Generator: If you do not have an AutoFlush or PowerFlush system for your generator, manual clean-ups are required. So, to keep your steam shower generator operating at its best, open the manual drain valve every 2-3 months to get rid of any minerals such as salt or other sediments that may have accumulated because of boiling water.
Inside the Shower Enclosure
Due to high humidity and continual use, steam shower units demand a little bit more attention than your average shower!
- Select your Cleaning Products: Make sure the cleaning products you use inside your steam shower are compatible with the surfaces in the enclosure. You do not want to damage any of the finishes by using chemicals that are too harsh or abrasive.
- Wash Consistently: Consistently cleaning your steam shower prevents stains, mold build-up and other undesirable marks. Rinse the shower with hot water, then use a gentle cleanser and sponge to clean all surfaces. Finally, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Removing the steam head and handles for rinsing also helps remove any residue that may have built up. Soak them in a safe cleanser and dry before reinstalling.
- Drainage: Nobody likes a clogged drain and if not attended to consistently, this can be quite a messy (and draining) experience. To clean your drain, pour boiling water down it followed by an even mixture of baking soda and vinegar then, after around 15 minutes, flush it with more hot water.
